The raw material is cleaned and thoroughly cooked to extract the hydrocolloid into hot gel solution, which has 3%~5% insoluble substances such as cellulose, hemicellulose, shells, perlite or even sand. In order to remove these insoluble substances, it is necessary to perform coarse and fine filtration on the hot gel solution to improve its clarity and prepare for the cooling and precipitation process. Chamber filter press can be used for this purpose which can produce residue cakes with moisture of about 40-50%. While to reduce the filter aid consumption and maximize the gel recover rate, membrane filter press is a better choice which can low down the cake moisture to 30%~40%.
After KCL precipitation or cooling treatment, The clarified hot gel will condensed into massive gel which is full of about 99% moisture. The traditional method is to put the gel into a filter bag and then squeeze it by a hydraulic press. This method is inefficient, costly, and poor in sanitary condition . A special designed membrane filter press can solve this problem and press the block like gel into uniform sheet and low down the moisture to 72%~75% in an economical and efficient way, which makes it easier for granulation and at the same time greatly reduced the energy consumption in subsequent drying process.
Compared with KCL gel precipitation method, to forced cooling the hot gel with tubular condenser can greatly shorten the gelation time. It can can automatically control the feeding flow and cooling temperature to minimize gel loss and improve the yield. Moreover, the gel strength produced by condenser is considered superior to the one from KCL precipitation.
